Common Grave - Il Male di Vivere. Full-length on Eerie Art Records.
This is the full-length debut of Italian Black Metal band Common Grave, they started in 1999 and before this album they released one demo in 2005 and in 2007 they released a rough mix of promo mix of the title-track of this recording. The music is slow and obscure Black Metal, well played and well written with some faster parts and acoustic passages coupled with some really impressive guitar work. The tracks are long and the vocals are tormented. The atmosphere is dark and hollow. It reminds me a bit of early Bethlehem, Shining and forgotten Tomb. According to the information I was given, this is a concept album about the "spleen", the suffering of everyday life. Which seems to be an appropriate subject considering the musical direction. I like the fact that they have linked all the tracks together, before the first one ends the next starts, there is no silence between the tracks, and the general idea seems to be that you should listen to the album in one sitting. You are most likely familiar with this type of music, it has been done before, but what can I say, this is really fucking great. Impressive debut.
