Devious - Domain. Full-length on Deity Down Records.
This is my first encounter with this Dutch band. This is their second full-lenght, they have also released a self titled mini CD in 2002. They have been around since the turn of the millennium and they play a mixture of Thrash Metal and Death Metal. Their approach is quite melodic, but it's still harder and heavier then the Gothenburg stuff. Quite technical Death Metal, focused and well played, inspired mostly by the American masters of Death Metal with a hint of the early Swedish groove mixed with some general Thrash Metal. A lot of tempo-changes but there is a natural flow, it never feels abrupt or out of place. The vocals feels more Thrash Metal then Death Metal, no deep grunt/growls, more screamed vocals, borderline Black Metal. As I said before there are some melodic elements to the music, mostly delivered by a keyboard, which is good since then the guitars can concentrate on churning out brutal and fierce Death Metal riffs. But it isn't just mind-blowing violence, there are also a lot of headbanger riffs is contained on this CD. Nice effort, not really my type of music but if you are into technical Death Metal mixed with Thrash Metal with a melodic touch this is for you. Great craftsmanship. |
