Enmerkar - Starlit Passage. MCD on Eerie Art Records.
This MCD starts with a calm intro, some acoustic picking, I can hear birds in the far background, some soft keyboard parts here and there, at times this reminds me of Alcest first official release "Le Secret". After a while it slows down and one element after another fades out, then the darkness really starts. Enmerkar plays a form of Black Metal that has been quite prevalent in the last years. Mournful Black Metal combined with Ambient elements. The music is based around the riffs, which are of a really high quality, dark and haunting, these riffs are repeated over and over again creating an almost dreamlike state in the listeners. There is also the Ambient part of the music which is usually created by skilfully using a keyboard, making it so it doesn’t take over the music, but it sits in the background feeding the darkness. And on top of everything there are the vocals, they sound a bit processed but that doesn’t really matter because they fit just perfectly in this music. Like so many other bands play this type of Black Metal Enmerkar is a one-man band, the brain child of Morchiant who does everything in this band. A really good debut, get this if you are into Xasthur and Leviathan, but don’t expect a clone band. |
