Helevorn - Forthcoming Displeasures. Full-length on Bad Mood Man Music.
Helevorn (another Tolkien-inspired name) is a Spanish band that has been around since 1999, this is their second album, they also released a demo in 2001, but that is it. But when you listen to the music, you can quickly guess why so few releases over such a long period of time. They spend a lot of time writing the music, this is not thrown together over a weekend. That being said I must proclaim that this is not really my brand of music, a bit too sleek and clean, to much clean vocals, not enough filth and raw contempt. The music is related to Katatonia mainly (before they went overboard with the Rock-elements) and Paradise Lost. Slow, mournful Metal music, with a lot of Doom elements, some Death Metal elements with a taste of Gothic music. Majestic and quite Epic, with a lot of focus on creating a gloomy atmosphere filled with melancholy. And they do succeed, but once again not my type of music. If you enjoy Katatonia and/or Paradise Lost this will surely tickle your fancy. |
