Riddle of Meander/Skaur - Walking the Sinister Path... Split-CDR on Nigra Mors Records.
First I reviewed Riddle of Meander's full-length "End of all Life and Creation" then when I was finished with that review I quickly switched discs and I started to listen to this split. It was just like I skipped tracks on either of the CD. The music are very similar on both recordings, both musically and production-wise. If you have either releases you know what the other will sound like. Interesting arrangement of typical, Norwegian Black Metal riffs, cold and sinister brewing with hatred and scorn. Contains one track from their first demo and one Darkthrone cover. I like this and I can definitely recommend this to anyone into cold and harsh Black Metal. After the four Riddle of Meander tracks comes five Skaur, the opening track being over 17 minutes long. This is a Norwegian one-man band started in 2003. And Nordman (the guy behind this band) is a very productive man, in three years nine (!) demos was recorded and released. But most recently only splits has been released, two up to this date, this being the newest one. Musically we are walking through the frozen forests of Norway, hiking across the mighty mountains of the Norse land. Raw and pretty harsh Black Metal, with elements traced back to the early days of Burzum, Enslaved and maybe some Thorns. Hypnotic and bleak riffs creating a cold and harsh atmosphere, combined with clean guitars and nature samples which adds to the desolate experience. This is really good. This is a great split. With this you get to discover two parts of the Black Metal spectrum, so different yet so similar. Great fucking split. |
