S. C. A. L. P. - Chuzhaya Voina. Full-lenght on Bad Mood Man Music.
I have just reviewed the re-release of S. C. A. L. P.'s debut full-length album "Through Eternity", so I thought it fitting to review this album, their latest full-length. S. C. A. L. P. is a Russian band that started in 1991 and they have released three demos, one single, one compilation and three full-length albums, this being their most recent release. This album has a more Death/Doom Metal vibe to it then the first one. It seems like they have dropped all of their previous Heavy Metal influences. But then moved more into the Death Metal part of the spectrum. There is a lot of brutality and aggression to this album, a lot of faster parts. There are of course a lot of slower more Doom Metal parts on this album, but this time around those parts have a more Gothic feel to them, but not so much that I'm puking my guts out (which I often do when my ears are subjected to the Gothic plague). There is actually a good balance between the faster more aggressive parts and the slower more melancholic and sorrow filled parts. Not a bad album. |
