Sammath - Triumph in Hatred. Full-length on Folter Records.
Sammath are a Dutch Black Metal that has been around for a long time, they started as early as 1994. They have released three demos, and after those demos, four full-length albums with at least two years apart for each release. "Triumph of Hatred" is their latest release. The fact that they have been around for well over 15 years and have released that many albums and I have not heard of them really bothers me, for this is quite good. The music is hard hiting, brutal and violent Black Metal. There are traces of both old school Death Metal and old school Thrash Metal in the music, but I can claim with great confidence that this is Black Metal. The influences just help accentuate the Black Metal nature of this recording. They have the speed, the mid-paced sections, the blastbeats, the cold riffs and the screamed vocals. There is also a melodic layer to the music, but it is sort of buried amidst all the violence and aggression of the material. The title "Triumph of Chaos" is definitely apt, most definitely apt. Get this if what I just wrote sounded interesting.

Review by: Mordant.

Now this is my kind of Black Metal! Sammath was created back in Black Metal's glory days (1994 to be exact) by Jan Kruitwagen (guitarist) the band has quite an impressive back catalogue under their Metal belts. “Triumph in Hatred” is Sammath's newest release. The band and epically their music really embody the cold, ugly sound of the early 90's European Black Metal movement. The band also unleashes some insane, fast and furious Black Metal before mixing back to the more mid-paced evil sounds. Sammath have created and released some of the best Black Metal to be heard in sometime. Black Metal purist who enjoy the primitive, stripped down sound of Black Metal will love Sammath.
