S:t Erik - From Under the Tarn. Full-lenght on Solitude Productions.
This is a album that have been gaining some notoriety in the last few months since it was released, for all the right reasons. S:t Erik is Swedish Stoner band, named after a Swedish king that ruled Sweden circa 1150 – 1160, although he is much more of a mythological figure more based on legends then historical facts. S:t Erik the band has been around since 2006 and have only released a demo before this, their debut full-length album. Their music is pretty well grounded in the Stoner/Doom Metal genre, but done in a quite Droning pace and with a lot of interesting psychedelic keyboards. Add a lot of long instrumental parts you have as at least somewhat, unique album. The riffs on this album is excellent, slow, droning, dark and heavy with a nice Stoner groove to them without losing any of the inherent darkness. The vocals are also really excellent, clean and filled with a sense of angst and melancholy. The use of keyboards on this album is excellent (a phrase that I seldom use), it adds another level to the disturbing atmosphere of this recording. This is an excellent album that I think most into Doom Metal, Stoner, Psychedelic music will really enjoy. |
