Vhernen - The Funeral Era. Compilation on Eerie Art Records.
Vhernen is a one man band from the Faroe Islands (first band I've heard from the Faroe Islands) that started in 2006 and this is actually a compilation containing Vhernen's first two releases, the "Sepulchral Sorrows" demo and the ".S.y.b.e.r.i.a." EP, Vhernen has also released a full-length album, called simply "Vhernen". The music on this CD is dark and haunting, filled with pain and despair. Vhernen have used quite simplistic Black Metal as a base for the music, that much is clear, but there is more to the music then Black Metal, there is an almost abundance of ambient music in Vhernen's music. The music is very slow, slower then Doom Metal, slower then Sludge Metal this is Funeral Doom with a Black Metal twist. I know nothing new, especially in these days but Vehernen ahs something that makes them stick out, Vhernen uses the an electric cello and the orchestral harp very often through out this recording which adds another dimension of desolation and negativity to the music. And with the haunting riffs, the ambient stuff the great arrangements and the whispered, tortured vocals the result is a fairly unique sonic experience. This is really good, for all into Funeral Doom, and for people that enjoys something a bit different.
